Everton’s trip to Hamburg this summer is causing great excitement in the German city with tickets already selling out hugely.
MOPO report that, according to their information, 20,000 tickets have already been sold for the game which will also see the women’s teams face each other.
Everton excitement
The newspaper explains that pre-season is in full swing for HSV, and they are very much looking forward to Everton’s visit on August 1st.
Advanced ticket sales have begun for that fixture and one thing seems certain, the Volkspark will be packed with fans. And according to initial sales, the pre-season game has proven to be a ‘massive hit’.
According to MOPO’s information, HSV’s first ever clash with Everton has been taken as ‘something special’ and not to miss. The double-header, with the women’s team kicking off the football at 1:30pm before the men at 5pm, has gone down a storm with the majority of the HSV fanbase.
Once members had the opportunity to exercise first refusal, tickets went on general sale. According to MOPO, almost 20,000 tickets had been sold by Monday evening. That’s an ‘astonishing’ figure at this stage.
Record figures
All indications are that HSV are on course to match the figure’s from last year’s fixture. On that occasion, more than 45,700 fans flocked to the Volkspark for their clash with Lyon.
Their record is currently 57,000 fans, who turned out to watch Barcelona in 2012 to mark the club’s 125th anniversary. They were left disappointed that summer, though, as Barcelona travelled without Lionel Messi. That saved HSV €400,000 of the agreed fee, but fans were naturally furious.
That won’t happen against Everton, who have no such superstar to draw the fans in. But there is a slight concern over whether their World Cup stars will make it. For now, though, tickets are selling and Everton are causing a stir in Hamburg.
