While pre-season is yet not underway for the senior team, the academy side has already begun their preparations on Monday.
While the majority of first-team stars remain on holiday or on World Cup duty, a handful of senior figures have also made early returns to Kirkby.
Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, and Stefan Bajcetic have all been spotted back at the training complex in recent days.
Adding to the buzz around the AXA, new signing Ifeanyi Ndukwe was also seen in Liverpool colours for the first time. The 18-year-old centre-back joins from Austria Vienna in a deal worth an initial £2.6 million, having dazzled scouts at the 2025 U17 World Cup where he helped Austria reach the final.
But it seems that next Tuesday is the date when the senior squad will be reconvening ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Athletic report in their Transfer Dealsheet that pre-season starts on Jul 14th:
“There was always an acceptance at Liverpool that getting most of their business done early was unrealistic this time around because of the World Cup and Iraola’s need to assess the talent he’s inherited. Pre-season starts at Kirkby on July 14.”
It gives new boss Andoni Iraola a brief but important window to stamp his identity on the squad before Liverpool jet off to the United States.
The Reds face Sunderland in Nashville on July 25, Wrexham at Yankee Stadium on July 29, and Leeds United at Soldier Field in Chicago on August 2. Iraola could, however, have more senior options available than initially anticipated for that tour.
The Netherlands – and with them Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo – were dramatically eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the Round of 32, while Germany’s Florian Wirtz and Sweden’s Alexander Isak also saw their respective nations exit at the same stage, with Germany falling to Paraguay and Sweden losing to France.
