Wow: Liverpool have now made contact over signing of star midfielder who is"not normal"

Liverpool have reportedly made contact over the potential signing of highly-rated Mexico midfielder Gilberto Mora, with many top clubs battling for his signature.

The 17-year-old has arguably been one of the most impressive young players at the 2026 World Cup, despite crashing out at the hands of England in the early hours of Monday morning.

Mora made four appearances and enjoyed a 90.7% pass completion rate for Mexico, with Club America’s Andre Jardine waxing lyrical over his brilliance:

“I’ve dedicated my life to working with young talent in youth systems, and it’s rare to see a player like him. Mexico has a gem here, it’s not normal to see a player like that, he is an exceptional player. He possesses great character, is taking full advantage of his national team experience, and he’s undoubtedly special. I believe he embodies a bright future for Mexican soccer.”

Now, according to an exciting report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are “very keen” on signing Mora and have “already made contact to establish the conditions of a deal, as well as the desires of Mora himself.”

The likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are all mentioned in the report, too, although a deal with the Reds is “far from close” and the “approach is only an exploratory one at this stage.”

Signing Gilberto Mora would be a major coup for Liverpool

Mora is such an exciting young footballer, already standing out as a top-level player at the age of just 17, so Liverpool signing him would feel significant.

He wouldn’t necessarily arrive as a key starter for the Reds, given his tender years, but he has the ability to mature into a truly elite midfielder over time, combining quality on the ball with tenacity off it.

The competition for Mora’s signature is understandably fierce, but Liverpool will hopefully be seen as an exciting prospect, with Andoni Iraola breathing new life into the club after a tough final year under Arne Slot.

Mora is already a 12-cap Mexico international – that number is only going to grow significantly over the years – and the Reds snapping him up would be a huge coup during a summer in which a host of impressive signings are hopefully made.
