Dominik Szoboszlai remains in negotiations over a new Liverpool contract, with the midfielder eager to commit his future to Anfield.
Szoboszlai’s representatives started talks with the club back in November over an extension beyond his current 2028 contract.
But as of now, there has still been “no breakthrough,” according to the *Liverpool Echo*‘s Paul Gorst. There is at least a “determination on both sides” to strike an agreement.
The midfielder is one of four players who are out of contract in 2028, along with Rio Ngumoha, Alexis Mac Allister and Federico Chiesa.
Liverpool are planning a new long-term deal for the teenager once he turns 18 in August, while Chiesa is expected to depart, and no talks have been initiated with Mac Allister’s camp.

Szoboszlai, therefore, is the most high-profile player with two years remaining on his deal, but Gorst reports he is “keen to commit his best years to the club.”
It is in line with Szoboszlai’s comments on the subject of his future throughout last season, with the Hungarian telling reporters in February that he “Would love to (stay).”
“I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.”
Liverpool will not want the process to drag on as it did with Konate, with the club having started in October 2024 before seeing the Frenchman leave as a free agent this summer.
Szoboszlai has grown into a key cog in Liverpool’s squad and led the way during a challenging 2025/26 campaign after amassing an impressive 25 goal involvements.
Despite some questionable interactions with supporters, Virgil van Dijk publicly backed the midfielder as a future club captain.
“It starts by leading by example, and that’s something he has done so far this season,” the Reds’ No. 4 said in February.
The 25-year-old has known admiration for Real Madrid, but Liverpool cannot allow another player in their prime to make the move with nothing in return – the next year will be defining.
