Jesse Derry is reportedly close to signing a new long-term contract at Chelsea.
Bobby Vincent and Pete O’Rourke report that the 18-year-old winger is nearing an agreement with the club.
Derry only joined Chelsea from Crystal Palace last summer, but the Blues already want to secure his future. He signed a four-year deal when he arrived, after Chelsea beat Bayern Munich and other European clubs to his signature.
The winger made his senior debut in the FA Cup win over Hull City in February. He then earned his first Premier League start against Nottingham Forest before a head injury ended his season early.
ReadChelsea has already covered how Jesse Derry’s injury ruled him out for the rest of the season, after Calum McFarlane praised the quality he showed in that Nottingham Forest game.

Chelsea Protect Another Cobham Asset
A new deal would continue Chelsea’s push to protect their best young players before the market opens around them.
Derry remains highly rated inside the academy pathway. His pace, direct running and left-sided profile give Chelsea another young wide option behind the senior squad.
Chelsea still have big decisions to make out wide. Several senior attackers face uncertain futures, while Estevao and Geovany Quenda form part of the next wave.
Derry’s new contract would not guarantee an immediate first-team role. It would give Chelsea control over the next stage of his development.
For now, the message is clear. Chelsea do not want one of their brightest young wingers drifting into the market.
