Everton to host Carabao Cup first round tie

**Everton are set to stage Preston North End’s Carabao Cup first-round tie.**

Paul Heckingbottom’s side have been drawn against Hudderfield Town in the opening leg of the competition which is scheduled to place on Saturday, August 8.

But the hosts are unable to fulfil the fixture at their Deepdale home due to a new hybrid pitch being installed in time for the new Championship season ‘s start..

Preston requested special dispensation from the EFL to switch the location of the game which is now set to take place at Everton Women’s Goodison Park home.

David Moyes’ side will enter the Carabao Cup’s second round in late August but have granted his former employers temporary residence at the Grand Old Lady.

“The pitch will be complete in time for the club’s first home league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 22nd August,” read a Preston statement.

“But to ensure no issues after a significant £1.5m-plus investment, the decision was made to ask permission to play away from PR1 in round one.”

Preston last visited Goodison in September 2020 when they lost a behind-closed-doors friendly against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Terriers, meanwhile, were previously in the blue half of Merseyside [in September 2018 for a 1-1 draw](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/everton-fc/29231-silva-tosun-sigurdsson-calvert-lewin-international-break/) in their last of two seasons in the Premier League.
