Arne Slot is understood to be a contender for the Netherlands job following their World Cup exit in a move which would reunite the former Liverpool manager with his old captain, Virgil van Dijk.
Slot spent two years at Anfield before being sacked at the end of May. He won the Premier League title in his maiden campaign after succeeding Reds royalty in Jurgen Klopp, but Slot paid the ultimate price for an acceptable second season, which culminated in a fifth place finish for Liverpool.
The Dutchman could soon be back in work, though, given interest in his services from the Netherlands national team.
They are looking for a new manager following Ronald Koeman's exit and Sky Sports Germany claim talks with Slot have already taken place.
While it remains to be seen if Slot would be keen on a foray into international management, the role would present the former Feyenoord chief a swift return to the dugout.
Should Slot end up succeeding Koeman, he would once again work with Van Dijk, who was his captain at Liverpool.
Van Dijk shared a classy tribute when it emerged Slot had been relieved of his duties at Anfield and even hit out at the way his exit was leaked before the club had communicated it to players, like himself.

"I landed in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon and it had already leaked. After that, of course, I had conversations. But the decision had already been made earlier. It is not like they are asking me how or what," Van Dijk told NOS last month.
"I have spoken with Arne and with Sipke (Hulshoff, assistant coach.). That is the most important thing for me. I am very grateful to them. For everything they have meant, not only to me but also to the club. I wish them nothing but success."
He added: "We are now living in a world where everyone [every journalist] wants to be the first person to break the news. These people are the ones that benefit from it. Yeah... this is the reality."
