Jurgen Klopp is set for a new round of talks with the Germany FA this week according to reports.
According to The Athletic, Klopp is set for face-to-face meetings with the German Football Association (DFB) in New York this week as negotiations continue over him becoming the country’s next head coach.
Germany are searching for a successor to Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down following a shock World Cup last-32 exit to Paraguay.
Klopp has already indicated his willingness to take on the role, and there is growing confidence that an agreement can be reached.
The 59-year-old has been working as a pundit during the tournament but will temporarily step away from those duties to meet DFB officials face-to-face according to the report.
There are still key details to resolve, however. The DFB must reach a compensation agreement with Red Bull, where Klopp currently serves as Global Head of Soccer.
Negotiations with CEO Oliver Mintzlaff are ongoing, though this is not expected to derail the move.
Last week, the former Liverpool manager confirmed he was keen on the Germany job:
“Yes, I can confirm the talks. Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they’re talking to me.”
I’m under contract with Red Bull. I’ve said I’m interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn’t only about Julian Nagelsmann,” Klopp explained
“I also have to speak with Oliver Mintzlaff. He’s my employer. We’ve already touched on a few things. I assume he won’t stand in the way. I’ve been there for 19 months. It was an intense time.”
“I’m ready. Once the talks begin, your mind starts racing. We have to change things fundamentally.”
Pep Lijnders is also in line to join Klopp once again. The Dutch coach has provisionally agreed to become Klopp’s assistant with the national team.
He joined up with Pep Guardiola’s coaching team at Manchester City ahead of the 2025/26 season, departing alongside the Spaniard earlier this summer.
