Jeremy Jacquet is joining Liverpool, as per the latest news. The Reds have signed a deal with Rennes for the transfer of the French defender.
Jeremy Jacquet joins Liverpool with a huge package
As reported by BBC, Liverpool completed the signing of Jacquet for a total package of £60 million. The 20-year-old centre-back is excited about his new stint at Anfield. He said, “For me it’s a big dream. It’s a big club.”
Though the deal between Liverpool and Rennes for Jacquet was signed in January, he will be joining the Reds from July onwards. This is because the French defender sustained a shoulder injury just after the agreement. This kept him out of action for a few months. Before joining Liverpool, Jacquet played for Rennes between 2024 and 2026. In between, he was also loaned out to Clermont Foot 63.

Benefits of Jacquet’s potential Liverpool entry
Liverpool are undergoing a massive transformation. The club didn’t have a great time in the 2025-26 season. The Reds finished runners-up in the FA Community Shield. They also made it to the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League. However, they finished fifth in the 2025-26 Premier League. This was only a year after the Reds won the Premier League title for the 2024-25 season. Subsequently, Arne Slot was replaced by Andoni Iraola as the team manager.
Iraola knows that it won’t be easy for him to bring back the Reds to winning ways. However, he is working on an effective solution. He aims to create a strong defensive lineup ahead of the 2026-27 season. That’s why the club is pursuing defenders like Marc Guehi, Milos Kerkez, and now Jeremy Jacquet. Jacquet performed brilliantly for Rennes in the 2025-26 season. The French club finished in sixth place in Ligue 1. They also secured the qualification for the upcoming UEFA Europa League. Jacquet will be a bonus to Liverpool’s defensive lineup.
What’s next for Jeremy Jacquet?
Due to recurring injuries, Jacquet missed out on most of the 2025-26 season. Probably that was also the reason why he didn’t receive a call-up for Les Bleus ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Jacquet’s name was missing from the final 26-man squad for the ongoing World Cup.
However, the centre-back is not disappointed. He is focusing on the upcoming club **football**season. Apart from his fitness, Jacquet also needs to improve on his disciplinary concerns. He was handed a red card in one of the Ligue 1 matches last year. He needs to keep his cool if he wants to make it big at Liverpool next year.
Unlike some of their counterparts, Liverpool had a stable managerial setup for some time. Naturally, Arne Slot was expected to Jurgen Klopp’s legacy. In fact, he started on a brilliant note with the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season. However, things started going downhill. There were also alleged reports that not everything was well between Slot and some of the players. After the Reds finished fifth in the 2025-26 Premier League, Slot was asked to step down.
Andoni Iraola knows that he won’t get another opportunity like this. He has to ensure that the Reds get back on track ahead of the 2026-27 season. As such, the entry of Jeremy Jacquet could be a step in the right direction.
