Young forward spotted at Newcastle Airport after Man Utd & Liverpool interest

Newcastle United transfers: Newcastle have been linked with one of Arsenal’s sought-after academy prospects this summer.

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for 16-year-old forward Kyran Thompson following his release from Arsenal last week.

The Magpies would be pushing for an initial scholarship deal for the teenager as youngsters can’t sign professional contracts until after they turn 17.

Newcastle previously tried to sign Thompson back in 2024, but the winger ended up joining Arsenal instead after leaving West Ham United’s academy set-up.

Thompson is an England Under-17 international and scored three goals in 26 appearances for Arsenal in the Under-18s Premier League last season. Arguably his moment of the season came in the UEFA Youth League as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Bayern Munich.

The young forward has also attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool this summer.

While suggestions of an imminent move to Newcastle have been played down, the player himself has fuelled speculation with a social media post.

Thompson took to Instagram to post an image of himself walking into an airport. While not immediately clear which airport, anyone familiar will have been quickly able to identify it as Newcastle International.

Just a coincidence or teasing a potential move to Newcastle? We’ll let you decide.

The Magpies are looking to strengthen at academy level after the release of several players from scholarship deals. The club have their sights set on West Ham academy defender Kyle Healy-Matthews.

The youngsters, should they sign, will join up with Newcastle’s Under-18s side who finished third behind Manchester City and Manchester United in the North section of the Under-18s Premier League in 2025/26.
