Enzo Fernandez remains one of the summer’s biggest stories. The picture has shifted fast, though, after Real Madrid ruled themselves out. Arsenal, according to the latest news, now look best placed to sign the Chelsea midfielder, with the Gunners quietly growing more interested behind the scenes.
Real Madrid Statement Ends Interest In Enzo Fernandez
The Gunners have been linked with Enzo Fernandez since spring. This week, the story gathered momentum. As reported by TEAMTalk, Real Madrid issued a firm denial on their own website. The club said they made no effort to sign the Chelsea midfielder, and have no plans to change that.
That statement matters. Madrid had long been seen as the frontrunner for this deal. Reports in Spain even suggested personal terms were close to being agreed. As reported by TEAMtalk, though, sources inside the Spanish club have played that down. For Arsenal, the timing works in the Gunners’ favour. One major rival has stepped aside as the transfer window enters a busier phase.
The north London club have not gone public with any bid. Talks remain at an early stage. Still, Real Madrid stepping back clears space for Mikel Arteta’s side. There is now less fear of being outbid by Europe’s biggest spender.

Arsenal Gather Information On Enzo Fernandez
Interest from Arsenal is nothing new. As reported by TEAMtalk, transfer journalist Fraser Fletcher was first to highlight the club’s early interest in Enzo Fernandez back in May. That was well before Real Madrid’s statement changed the tone of this race. Since then, the player has kept shining at the World Cup. That form has done little to quiet the speculation. It has only added to his value this summer.
Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari added fresh detail this week. As reported by Football Transfers, he said Arsenal and Manchester City are both “gathering information on the Argentine.” Fabrizio Romano has since clarified that City are not in active talks. That update narrows the field considerably.
That leaves the Gunners with something close to a free run. No formal offer has been made yet, though. Chelsea have insisted Enzo Fernandez is not for sale. Still, few observers think that will hold if the player keeps pushing for a move.
How Xabi Alonso’s Rebuild Could Shape The Transfer Race
Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in 2023. That deal set a new transfer record for a player from Argentina. Letting him go now will not be easy. Even so, the club have already lost key players this summer. There is a growing sense that more exits could follow.
Xabi Alonso’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has already reshaped the squad, and further changes look likely as he settles on his preferred system. Losing a player of this stature would be a blow, but Chelsea have shown willingness to sell once a fitting offer lands.
For Arsenal, strengthening the middle of the pitch fits a clear pattern. As reigning Premier League champions, Arteta’s squad likes to build from strength, not need. A player of this level would count as a real statement in world football.
Nothing is close to being final. Real Madrid stepping aside does not guarantee the Gunners will win this race either. Manchester City’s interest has not been entirely ruled out, and Chelsea may yet manage to hold onto their prized asset. What stands out is that this story has clearly changed shape within days.
