Liverpool have made a steady start to the summer transfer window, completing the signings of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes and Victor Munoz from Osasuna after triggering the forward’s release clause.

Despite those arrivals, the Reds are expected to step up their transfer activity after the World Cup. Reinforcements are still needed in the wide attacking areas as the club plans for life after Mohamed Salah, while a midfielder and a defender also remain on the shortlist.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s reported pursuit of highly-rated youngster Xavier Parker appears to have come to an end this summer.

The 16-year-old England youth international, who joined Manchester City from West Ham United in 2024, enjoyed an impressive campaign for City’s under-18 side, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 20 appearances.

Liverpool had been strongly linked with the teenage attacker, with several reports suggesting he was close to making the move to Anfield.

However, according toThe Talent Hunter, Parker has decided to remain at Manchester City despite interest from Liverpool and several other Premier League clubs, bringing an end to speculation over his future for now.

The Talent Hunter posted on X: “Despite significant interest from some of the biggest clubs in the country, 16 year-old Xavier Parker is set to stay at Manchester City.

“Last month, there were multiple reports from credible sources that Xavier was expected to leave City and join Liverpool. A host of other Premier League clubs were also said to be closely monitoring him. However, Xavier has now chosen to stay at Manchester City.”

Liverpool’s reported interest in Xavier Parker is understandable, given the club’s continued focus on recruiting elite young talent.

Parker is regarded as one of England’s brightest prospects and has the versatility to operate in several midfield roles, making him an attractive long-term option.

A move to Anfield could have provided a clear pathway through the academy before a potential step into the first team.

However, regular playing time will be crucial to Parker’s development. At this stage of his career, consistent minutes and the right environment are likely to be more beneficial than limited opportunities at a major club.
