Report–Arsenal preparing transfer offer for World Cup teenage sensation

Gilberto Mora to Arsenal: Gunners plot £34m teenage swoop

Gilberto Mora to Arsenal: The transfer market moves fast, but this is ridiculous.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to launch a massive formal bid for Club Tijuana’s 17-year-old sensation Gilberto Mora. According to Mexican outlet El Universal, sporting director Andrea Berta wants to bypass the usual summer haggling entirely. He is prepared to pay the full asking price. No nonsense. No drawn-out saga. It is a massive statement of intent from North London, especially with Real Madrid and Barcelona sniffing around. Manchester United were interested too, but they have apparently backed away, terrified of getting dragged into a bidding war.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are well into the mix. They are already in direct contact with the player’s camp. (Metro)

Who exactly are the Gunners chasing?

Mora is not your average academy graduate. Born in Tuxtla Gutierrez in October 2008, the lad has been smashing records for fun. He became the youngest goalscorer in Liga MX history back in August 2024 at just 15. Less than a year later, he was making his senior debut for Mexico.

The hype is real. He completely lit up the 2026 World Cup.

Statistically, the numbers back up the noise. Mora has already racked up 53 senior appearances for Tijuana across Liga MX and the Leagues Cup, bagging 10 goals and two assists. Six of those goals came in his last 20 games alone. He is tiny, just 5ft 6in, but his low centre of gravity makes him a nightmare for defenders. Despite what a few scouting blogs claim, he is heavily right-footed, operating best when he can drift into pockets of space and create chaos. FotMob keeps his market value at a modest €9.8 million, but Tijuana know they have a lottery ticket in their hands.

The financial reality is a lot steeper.

Tijuana want upwards of €40 million (£34m). That muddies the waters regarding his supposed release clause. El Universal initially suggested a clause existed around the $25 million (£18.7m) mark, but sources speaking to TEAMtalk insist that figure is miles off what it will actually take to get a deal done. Tijuana played a clever hand on 9 June 2026, tying the youngster down to a new three-year contract, handing him the iconic No.10 shirt, and inserting a clause specifically designed to facilitate a move to Europe.

There is a massive catch, though. Bureaucracy.

Because of his Mexican nationality, Premier League rules dictate that Mora cannot officially sign for an English club until he turns 18. He does not hit that milestone until October 2026. The summer transfer window will be shut by then. Therefore, the earliest he can pull on an Arsenal or Liverpool shirt is January 2027, though a pre-contract agreement could easily be thrashed out before then.

Tijuana executives have accepted the inevitable. He is leaving. His agent is Rafaela Pimenta, one of the most ruthless, powerful dealmakers in world football, and she is not going to let her client go on the cheap.
