Jordan Henderson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 World Cup after suffering a suspected broken bone while celebrating England’s 3-2 win over Mexico.
The 36-year-old midfielder was an unused substitute in Sunday’s dramatic round-of-16 clash at Azteca Stadium, where Harry Kane’s penalty and Jude Bellingham’s brace secured victory for ten-man England.

Henderson appeared to fracture a bone in his left arm after jumping over the advertising hoardings to celebrate with supporters.
The former Liverpool captain remained overnight in a Mexican hospital with an England staff member while the rest of the squad returned to Kansas City.
According to BBC Sport, England manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to advise players against jumping over advertising boards after Henderson’s freak injury. Henderson is set to undergo surgery on the wrist injury, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament.
“Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist,” Tuchel told BBC One after the match. “It looks really bad. It’s a quite serious injury and it doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital.”
Thomas Tuchel has now lost both Jordan Henderson and Tino Livramento to World Cup-ending injuries. Reece James has missed three games with a hamstring problem, while Jarell Quansah is suspended for England’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami.
Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Marc Guéhi and Nico O’Reilly are also at risk of suspension, with another yellow card against Norway ruling them out of the semi-finals.
Henderson has, however, remained in contact with his team-mates. Guehi said: “Hendo’s in a better place than he was yesterday. It was scary for him, his family and everyone else. We’re just glad he’s on the road to a speedy recovery.”
Henderson is hopeful of remaining with the England squad in a supportive role for the rest of the tournament, provided doctors give him the green light.
