Italian & Spanish clubs want to recruit "world-class" Arsenal star

Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has attracted interest from Italy and Spain, according to The Athletic.

The 31-year-old signed for the Gunners from Chelsea last summer after they triggered a £5 million release clause in his contract.

At the same time, a similar clause was inserted into his Arsenal deal. The Spaniard is free to move on if another club were to pay £5m.

The Athletic now report that Arrizabalaga is on the radar of clubs in Italy and Spain and could be a candidate to leave the Gunners.

Arrizabalaga could depart for regular playing time

The former Chelsea man spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Bournemouth, where he was the undisputed starter throughout the campaign.

Arrizabalaga caught the eye with his fine reflexes. He saved 71 percent of shots against him, keeping eight clean sheets for the South Coast outfit.

The Cherries were obviously keen on retaining his services, but Arrizabalaga was convinced to join Arsenal last term with the opportunity to stay in London.

The Spaniard, described as ‘world-class‘ by Mateo Kovacic, fared well with four clean sheets in 12 appearances as David Raya’s deputy, but his blunder in the Carabao Cup final was a black mark.

Arrizabalaga retained the gloves for the FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Southampton, where many felt Raya should have been reinstated between the sticks.

Still, the Athletic Club graduate remains a good backup goalkeeper, and Arsenal have a notable void to fill if he were to move on for regular first-team football.

Inter Milan were linked with Arrizabalaga earlier this summer, but have not followed up their interest.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have agreed to sign former Leeds number one Illan Meslier as a third-choice goalkeeper. We don’t feel he should be a deputy if Arrizabalaga leaves. The Frenchman has been error-prone, which was the reason for his demotion at the Whites last season.

The 26-year-old made three high-profile errors leading to goals in the Championship. In our view, Arsenal should explore a better shot-stopper to provide cover for Raya if Arrizabalaga moves on.
