Dominik Szoboszlai was named Liverpool’s 2025-26 Men’s Player of the Season. The Hungarian enjoyed an outstanding campaign, featuring in 53 of the Reds’ 57 matches and starting every game he played.
Operating in midfield and occasionally deputising at right-back, Szoboszlai contributed 13 goals and a team-high 12 assists.

He was also recognised five times as Standard Chartered Player of the Month and won the Carlsberg Player of the Match award on eight occasions.
Szoboszlai’s quality from set-pieces was a highlight of the season, with eight of his goals included in Liverpool’s Goal of the Season shortlist.
Four of those strikes came directly from free-kicks in Premier League matches, the most by a Liverpool player in a single campaign in the competition.
The 25-year-old, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2023, also became only the second Hungarian to reach 100 Premier League appearances.
Meanwhile, according to the Liverpool Echo, talks over a new contract remain ongoing. Szoboszlai’s representatives opened discussions with Liverpool in November over an extension.
However, no agreement has been reached, although both parties are determined to find a solution. The report claims that, “It’s understood Szoboszlai remains in talks over a new deal at Anfield with the 25-year-old midfielder keen to commit his best years to the club having settled in the North West with his wife Borka and their young daughter.
“Negotiations are yet to reach a breakthrough and the fate of Ibrahima Konate – who walked away as a free agent to Real Madrid at the age of 27 – might be enough to unsettle fans where Szoboszlai is concerned, but there is at least a determination on both sides to extend the agreement that began three years ago.”
In April, Dominik Szoboszlai said he was “completely relaxed” about his Liverpool contract situation despite the lack of progress over a new deal. The Hungary international remains under contract at Anfield until 2028.
“There has been no real progression, so I cannot say anything new about my contract situation,” Szoboszlai said after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Everton.
“We have a lot of games to go and I am focusing on that. As you guys know, my contract ends in 2028, so I am ready to go every day, every week, and then let’s see.
“Of course I see myself here in the long term, but it is not really in my hands any more. I love being here. I love the fans. My family is happy. I’m completely relaxed. We have five games to go. Then I am going to rest – – a big one, after my international break. Then we will see.”
Szoboszlai is expected to play a key role under new head coach Andoni Iraola ahead of the 2026-27 season, which commences next month.
