Liverpool's quest to add to their ranks this summer has somewhat curtailed. The capture of Victor Munoz from Osasuna has been the Reds' only foray into the transfer window so far.

The ongoing World Cup is no doubt a formidable obstacle to those clubs who want their business wrapped up quickly. Andoni Iraola is expected to run the rule over his current squad but more incomings do look likely.

In today's news, one of those players rumoured with a move to the Reds, who is currently starring at the World Cup, has been advised to remain at his current club. Elsewhere, an update on the future of former Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield this summer, has emerged.

World Cup star update

Bradley Barcola has been urged to resist the temptation of a big-money move to Liverpool, by former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly. The ex-French international has told the young winger to continue his career at Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool have turned their attentions to the wide man - who is currently with France at the World Cup - with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande said to prefer a move to PSG.

The European champions are insistent they have no desire to sell Barcola and value the 23-year-old in excess of £100million, with Arsenal also believed to be keen. "Barcola doesn’t need to leave PSG," he said.

"He's too young. (France national team head coach) Didier Deschamps is teaching him a lesson and he's giving him a chance. I thought that for Barcola to start and play 90 minutes at the international level, he wouldn’t do it because Barcola is too light on defensive discipline.

"Remember, we play with four offensive players, and bringing Barcola into the system could have been another weakness because he doesn't make the effort to defend. When you look at his previous matches with PSG, or even some of the matches he did for the national team during the Euros, he had that weakness.

"He's young; the attention and defensive alertness isn't there to match the speed he projects when he’s going forward.

"He wasn't making the effort to get back into position. So, should he move to the Premier League? Not yet. Not yet at all. Sorry Arsenal and Liverpool fans. He should stay at Paris Saint-Germain, play 25 games a season, and grow within that system."

Mo Salah update

Italian giants Roma and Juventus are said to have explored the possibility of signing Salah this summer. The winger continues to be linked with clubs, particularly in Saudi Arabia where there has been longstanding interest in the 34-year-old.

The Mail have reported that Roma, the club Salah joined Liverpool from, and Juventus are interested but could face a financial challenge to bring the Egyptian star to Italy.

Salah is expected to command a significant wage wherever he goes this summer. The United States has been touted as another potential destination, while the report adds that clubs in Turkey also have interest.

Speaking ahead of the World Cup, Salah claimed his future would be resolved after the tournament. “I am still assessing things," he said. "I have time now. I am going to the World Cup and then everything will become clear."
