Liverpool's quest for fresh recruits this summer has been relatively quiet. The acquisition of Victor Munoz from Osasuna stands as the Reds' only foray into the transfer market so far.
The current World Cup is clearly presenting a major obstacle for clubs keen to wrap up their dealings quickly. Andoni Iraola is expected to evaluate his current squad thoroughly, although additional signings do seem likely.
In today's transfer developments, one player who has been linked with a move to the Reds and is presently excelling at the World Cup has been advised to remain at his current club. Additionally, new information has surfaced concerning the future of former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield this summer.
World Cup target update
Bradley Barcola has been advised to reject the possibility of a lucrative transfer to Liverpool by former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly. The ex-French international has encouraged the young winger to continue progressing at Paris Saint-Germain, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool have turned their attention towards the wide player, who is currently representing France at the World Cup, with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande believed to favour a switch to PSG instead.
The European champions are insistent they have no plans to allow Barcola to depart and rate the 23 year old at over £100million, with Arsenal also believed to be keeping tabs on developments. "Barcola doesn't need to leave PSG," he said.

"He's too young. (France national team head coach) Didier Deschamps is teaching him a lesson and he's giving him a chance. I thought that for Barcola to start and play 90 minutes at the international level, he wouldn't do it because Barcola is too light on defensive discipline.
"Remember, we play with four offensive players, and bringing Barcola into the system could have been another weakness because he doesn't make the effort to defend. When you look at his previous matches with PSG, or even some of the matches he did for the national team during the Euros, he had that weakness.
"He's young; the attention and defensive alertness isn't there to match the speed he projects when he's going forward.
"He wasn't making the effort to get back into position. So, should he move to the Premier League? Not yet. Not yet at all. Sorry Arsenal and Liverpool fans. He should stay at Paris Saint-Germain, play 25 games a season, and grow within that system."
