Fabrizio Romano names two likely destinations for Mohamed Salah

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s future with his situation expected to become clear now that Egypt is out of the World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s future.

Egypt had given themselves every reason to dream at the World Cup. Having already made history at this World Cup – reaching the knockout rounds for the first time since their debut- the Pharaohs came to Atlanta on Tuesday night with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

A 2-0 lead with just 11 minutes of normal time remaining had the unthinkable in sight: eliminating the reigning world champions.

It was not to be. Cristian Romero sparked a stunning Argentina comeback, before Lionel Messi drilled home an equaliser, and Enzo Fernandez headed in a dramatic winner deep into stoppage time to seal a 3-2 victory for the holders.

Egypt were furious, convinced they should have been awarded a penalty before the killer blow, with challenges on both Salah and Hamdi Fathy going unpunished.

Now, attention will swiftly turn to what comes next for Salah himself.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed the two most likely landing spots for the Egyptian icon following his departure from Liverpool:

“He has the possibility from Saudi [Arabia] because in Saudi they always wanted Mo Salah. Already [for] two or three years, Mo Salah has been a top target.

“My understanding is that also from the MLS, some calls took place to understand the situation of Mo Salah, so MLS could be a possibility as well. MLS, Saudi, let’s see what Salah decides, but after the World Cup there’s going to be time for him and his agent Ramy Abbas to decide the future.”

The 34-year-old had been deliberately vague about his club future throughout the tournament, saying ahead of the competition: “I still need to see what happens. I have time now. I’m going to the World Cup, and after that everything will be decided”.

With Egypt’s World Cup campaign now over, that time has arrived. Expect the next chapter of Salah’s career to be written in the coming weeks.
