Manchester City exit brings ‘financial windfall’ for club – Keep benefitting from transfers

Nathan Aké’s move from Manchester City to Fenerbahçe has seen former club Feyenoord benefit once again, despite never playing for the Dutch club.

FR12 cover the situation today and how Aké’s move has again provided Feyenoord with a ‘financial windfall’. They’re benefitting from FIFA’s solidarity scheme once again.

The website explains that, thanks to that scheme, the 31-year-old’s move from Manchester City to Fenerbahçe will bring in further increases for the Dutch club.

Reports in England have explained that Aké is set to move to Türkiye for around €7m, with a further €1.5m in potential bonuses.

Under FIFA’s regulations, Feyenoord will get a solidarity contribution as he was trained at Varkenoord between 2007 and 2011. Any bonuses will also result in an additional solidarity contribution at a later date.

Aké ever made his debut for Feyenoord’s first team. But he has earned the club a considerable sum over the years.

When he moved to Chelsea in 2011, they received a fee and several performance related clauses were included in the deal. They later received a bonus when he made his debut for the Blues.

€3m by 2020

When Chelsea then sold him to Bournemouth, Feyenoord received a ‘contractually agreed share of the transfer fee’. De Telegraaf calculated in 2020 that Aké had earned them around €3m.

He then joined Manchester City in the summer of that year. Thanks to a change in FIFA’s regulations, Feyenoord also benefitted from that transfer as well. That was worth around €500,000.

Now, they’re set for another payment. Based on what the transfer eventually costs, they are expecting to receive around €100,000 in solidarity payments. If all bonuses are met, that amount could rise further.

Feyenoord are already celebrating, with this latest solidarity payment proving just how valuable a strong youth academy can be, even when the players don’t make it to your first team.
