Everton reveal academy shake-up changes

**Everton have confirmed a wave of changes in their academy shake-up.**

Technical director Nick Cox undertook a review of Finch Farm’s developmental level operations which has led to a series of changes ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Dean Rastrick was appointed the Blues’ new academy director in June while head of academy coaching Carl Darlington will now oversee coaching development.

Other staff promotions include Ben Dickson as head of recruitment and Nick Chadwick as Player Development Programme coach and loans programme manager.

Dave Hughes will also join Everton in a newly-created role as head of academy player development while former academy graduate Paul Tate has left the club.

Tate spent 16 years back on Merseyside, first as under-18s head coach before stepping up to the U21s and briefly as caretaker after Frank Lampard’s sacking.

However the U21s’ head coach position has been made redundant under the restructuring plans with the age group now falling under Hughes’ wider remit.

Cox said: “We’ve spent the last six months conducting a strategic review of our Academy structure and these changes and appointments are part of that process.

“Our focus is on building an outstanding learning environment that is challenging, nurturing and supportive.

“To achieve that, it’s essential we identify and empower leaders who can drive standards, and create a culture where players and coaches can fulfil their potential.

“I’d like to thank Paul for his passion, dedication, loyalty and commitment during his time at Everton, and everyone at the club wishes him all the very best for the future.”
