A much-loved and historic 'Blues' pub, which served generations of Everton FC's match-goers but closed down after the club's move from Goodison Park, has been sold.

It's been just over a year since Everton Football Club's men's team moved to the Hill Dickinson stadium and much has changed over those 12 months. Everton Women now play at Goodison Park, and while those fixtures still bring in visitors to the area, the match-day revenues are significantly less than previously recorded.

As a result of the changes some businesses have closed down, including some of the area's best-known pubs, most notably The Winslow Hotel and The Spellow.

The Spellow pub was located in Goodison Road, Walton. But in October 2025, the Liverpool ECHO reported it had been put up for sale, with a guide price of £250,000.

A listing on ONYX Real Estate's website described it as a "versatile property located in close proximity to the iconic Goodison Park and Anfield Football Stadium".

It added: "This former pub features a spacious ground floor bar and lounge area. The upper level comprises six sizeable bedrooms, complemented by a shower room and an additional bathroom, offering great potential for AirBnB-style rentals or conversion."

The Spellow made headlines in February this year after a complaint was submitted to Liverpool City Council about the condition of the property including heavy duty rubbish and discarded households being dumped on the site.

The council confirmed it had served the owner a notice to clear environmental hazards under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949. The building had not been sold and was the responsibility of the owner at the time.

Earlier this week, the ECHO contacted Onyx Real Estate Liverpool, the agent still tasked with selling the property, which confirmed the pub had now been sold.

We understand the new owners have big plans for the property which include converting the ground floor into a community store.

The update will come as some relief to the surrounding neighbourhood who have reported several incidents of anti-social behaviour connected with the property.

With plans for a community-focused project at the site, it seems as though this local landmark will once again become a focal point for people living in the area, just as it served football fans for so many years.
