According to the latest transfer news, Arsenal could be readying a surprise move for a right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has emerged as a shock option at the position. The West Ham defender was not an obvious fit for the Gunners. Yet he now features among the names being weighed up as cover for Ben White.

Why Wan-Bissaka Has Emerged As A Shock Target

As reported by ESPN, Arsenal are working through a list of eleven right-back options this summer. Wan-Bissaka is one of them. This marks a genuine surprise. His playing history includes a spell at a major Premier League rival, prior to his switch to West Ham.

The 28-year-old built his name at Crystal Palace and then at Manchester United. His tackling drew steady praise at both clubs. Since joining West Ham, he has settled into a calm rhythm on the pitch. However, relegation to the Championship has now pushed the club toward a summer sale.

Interest is not limited to north London, though. As reported by TEAMtalk, Everton and Turkish side Fenerbahce have also shown interest in the same player. So, the Gunners may face some real competition if they push things further this window. For now, talks reportedly remain at an early and quiet stage.

Ben White Uncertainty Fuels Right-Back Search

As reported by Sky Sports, White suffered a serious knee injury back in May. As a result, his recovery timeline has clouded his short-term future at the club. Even so, Arsenal have quietly begun scouting fresh options, even though White is still valued highly by boss Mikel Arteta.

As reported by Sports Mole, interest from elsewhere in English football could speed up any exit. White had also slipped behind Jurrien Timber in the pecking order before the injury struck last season. Therefore, competition for the right-back spot was already building well before fitness became a bigger factor too.

Other names on the list include Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio and free agent Oscar Mingueza. RB Leipzig’s Lutsharel Geertruida and Newcastle’s Tino Livramento also feature in the mix, as reported by TEAMtalk. Still, Wan-Bissaka stands out thanks to his years of Premier League experience. Most rivals on that shortlist have far less top-flight game time behind them. That gap gives Arteta plenty to consider this summer.

What Wan-Bissaka Could Offer Arteta

Wan-Bissaka has made more than 230 Premier League appearances across three clubs so far. His one-on-one defending remains widely admired around the league. Former rivals often praise his footwork, and that reputation clearly matters to Arsenal right now. In fact, Tottenham midfielder James Maddison once called him “ridiculously good at one-v-one defending,” as reported by FootballFancast. That praise reflects the respect he commands among his peers.

His style could complement Timber well. It would give Arteta a steady, defence-first deputy rather than an attacking type. Meanwhile, as reported by Transfer Feed, a fee near £15-£20 million would be a sensible investment for a squad chasing more silverware next term.

The wider picture matters here too. Arsenal ended a long wait for the Premier League title last season under Arteta. That success brought fresh funds. It also brought higher standards. So, every position now gets close scrutiny before a single signing is made.

Nothing is close to being done just yet. Arsenal’s plans could easily shift depending on how White recovers over the coming weeks. Even so, this link shows just how closely the Gunners are checking every option before the transfer window shuts this summer. The picture will become clearer as the transfer window advances.
