Bruno Guimaraes' agent is understood to have given Arsenal encouragement that the Newcastle United captain wants to leave St James' Park.
The Toon skipper flew off to the World Cup having not agreed a new deal but has two years left on his current arrangement. However, Chronicle Live has been told there is interest from the Gunners and Mikel Arteta's side have been told an offer of over £60m could be enough to net the South American star.
For all that, there has been no contact or approach and no offer.
At the moment, Newcastle don't have a question to answer. But the Arsenal interest IS there, according to sources in the capital.
A report in The Athletic claims that Bruno has informed Newcastle that he wants to join Arsenal; however, the Magpies' stance has been clear all summer that they do NOT want to sell the star.
Newcastle are under no pressure to move the 28-year-old on and feel that they are protected by the two years left on his deal.
Bruno's agency has not commented on the situation, but it has spats of last summer's transfer saga with Alexander Isak and Liverpool when he eventually left for £125m.
As reported by Chronicle Live at the weekend, It is believed that Bruno is concerned about the sporting project at Newcastle after United failed to qualify for Europe and stars like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon were sold.
The Gunners have not placed an official bid, and there is no release clause to trigger, but a fee of around £60m has been deemed a price that could tip the balance on the Brazil international.
Sources at Arsenal have suggested that a concrete bid could follow later in the window, with Newcastle chiefs aware that an Isak situation is still a danger.
