Bruno Guimaraes has told Newcastle he wants to leave the club — and, unfortunately for one Liverpool hero, he isn’t eyeing up a move to Anfield.
Having fought so hard to try and stop Alexander Isak from joining the Reds last summer, the Magpies’ squad looks as though it is being ripped apart this year. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already left for Barcelona and Tottenham, respectively, and now another of their biggest stars wants an exit.
Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Anfield already this summer after reports claimed that Liverpool had made contact with the midfielder’s agent, but it’s Arsenal that is in the driving seat for his signature.
According to The Athletic, the 28-year-old has told Newcastle he wants to leave and join the Gunners this summer. Arsenal is said to be stepping up its interest and is willing to pay up to $80 million (£60M) for Guimaraes.
There hasn’t been any contact between the two clubs yet, though, and Newcastle is not entertaining any bids for the Brazil international.
News of Guimaraes wanting a move to north London will come as a blow for Liverpool hero Didi Hamann, who insisted earlier this year that the midfielder would be the perfect signing for the Reds.

"Bruno Guimaraes would be better [than Jude Bellingham] for Liverpool," Hamann told Casino Beats back in January. "It wouldn’t even be a question for me because he is a battler, a fighter, a warrior. I think that’s what Liverpool need.
"Ryan Gravenberch did so well last season but can’t do it all on his own. Alexis Mac Allister is in and out. He doesn’t really do enough going backwards. He does enough going forwards.
"He’s a good player to have around but I think Newcastle have got a player who can do it all in Bruno Guimaraes. He leads from the front."

Liverpool is currently looking for its second signing of the summer, having already landed Victor Munoz after hijacking Newcastle’s attempts to sign the Spanish winger.

A new right-winger looks to be the current priority, with the Reds searching for a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Yan Diomande had been the primary target for much of the summer, although the 19-year-old has now decided he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer.
Bradley Barcola is among the alternative options being linked, although any move for the French international may have to wait until after his involvement at the World Cup, with Andoni Iraola set to assess his squad as Liverpool’s players begin to report for pre-season training.
