Bruno Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract at Newcastle United after signing a five-year extension in October 2023. The agreement included a temporary £100million release clause, but it expired in June 2024 without being activated.

Anthony Gordon has already left the club to join Barcelona this summer for £69.3million, while Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Sandro Tonali in a deal worth up to £100million.

Guimaraes was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad at this summer’s World Cup, starting every match before they were eliminated by Norway in the last 16. He also contributed four assists during the tournament.

Since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, the midfielder has become a key figure at St James’ Park. He has racked up 153 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 26 assists.

Liverpool have made an initial enquiry about Guimaraes, although no formal offer has been submitted. However, according to The Athletic, the midfielder has informed Newcastle of his desire to leave the club and join Arsenal.

The Premier League champions are stepping up their pursuit of the 28-year-old and are willing to pay up to £60million for his services.

Arsenal reportedly had a verbal offer below that figure rejected, with Newcastle insisting they would not consider bids for their influential midfielder.

No official contact has been made between the clubs, and Newcastle continue to maintain their stance that Bruno Guimaraes is not for sale.

Eddie Howe’s side admire Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who has been monitored for some time, while Auxerre’s Kevin Danois is also among the players being tracked.

Newcastle will look to replace any midfielders who leave the club this summer, with potential departures expected to shape their recruitment plans.

The Magpies are facing the difficult task of replacing three key players, with Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak having already left over the past 10 months and Sandro Tonali this summer.

Losing Bruno Guimaraes as well would be a major blow for Eddie Howe, even with a significant transfer fee. The midfielder’s departure would leave Newcastle heading into the 2026-27 season with a less experienced and largely untested squad.
