Supercomputer Predicts World Cup Winners

Following their win over Egypt in one of the greatest games in World Cup history, a supercomputer has pegged Argentina to win the 2026 World Cup. They won the trophy in 2022 – now, they are expected to retain it.

According to calcuations run by a supercomputer, in association with British Gambler, the reigning World Cup champions are going to win football’s biggest prize once again.

Coming out as winners in 22.8% of the 1,000 simulations, they just beat out France, who won in 21.3% of the predictions. England, meanwhile, were lagging behind, winning in just 12.6% of them. Spain were in third place, having been estimated to win in 17.8% of all the simulations that were ran.

But how will Argentina reach the final – and who will they take on when they get there? The supercomputer figured all this out – let’s take a look.

Several of Argentina’s top stars are currently playing in the Premier League. For example, Lisandro Martinez plays for Manchester United, Alexis Mac Allister plays for Liverpool, while Cristian Romero and Marcos Senesi both represent Tottenham – can they bring it home once against for their country?

How will Argentina win the 2026 World Cup according to the supercomputer?

Argentina are set to win their quarter-final against Switzerland by a score of 2-1, in a game scheduled to take place in on July 12 at the Kansas City Stadium.

Following this, La Albiceleste will take on England in the semi-finals. For context, the supercomputer is expecting England to make it beyond Norway, winning by a narrow margin of 1-0 against Erling Haaland’s team.

However, the shoe will be on the other foot in the semis. The supercomputer believes that Argentina will overcome their bitter rivals, again, by a score of 1-0.

Then, in the final, Argentina are predicted to face tournament favourites France in a re-run of the 2022 World Cup final. Once again, Argentina are expected to emerge victorious.

Before we delve into that, however, let’s rewind a bit. France will take on Morocco in their quarter-final matchup, where they’re expected to win by a score of 2-0.

Then, in the semi-finals, they’re predicted to beat Spain in a 3-2 barn-burner. This would be quite a surprise – Spain haven’t conceded a single goal in the 2026 World Cup as of yet.

Let’s get back to the final. While their 2022 clash was an all-time classic, the 2026 iteration might not be quite so climactic – Argentina are pegged to beat France by a score of 2-1.

What has been said about the prediction for Argentina to win the World Cup?

Alex Kostin, a spokesperson for British Gambler, said: “Our supercomputer simulated the rest of the 2026 World Cup 1,000 times using the current quarter-final bracket – and this is the single most likely path to the trophy produced by our model.

“Argentina versus France would be a mouth-watering repeat of the 2022 Final, and with Lionel Messi playing what is almost certainly his last World Cup, the emotional weight behind an Argentina triumph shouldn’t be underestimated by either the model or the neutral fan.

“England’s projected semi-final exit to Argentina will be a familiar and painful story for supporters, but reaching the last four itself would represent a strong tournament for Thomas Tuchel’s side.”
