Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Premier League rivals Chelsea to sign Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos in a major move aimed at strengthening their options in the centre of the pitch.
The Brazilian has emerged as one of Brazil’s most highly rated young midfield talents since arriving in European football, and United are understood to have moved quickly to secure a deal after identifying him as a player who fits their long-term recruitment strategy.
Santos joined Chelsea from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in January 2023 after impressing in his homeland, with the London side beating competition from several European clubs to complete his signing.
The midfielder arrived with a reputation as a technically gifted player with strong defensive instincts, composure in possession and the ability to contribute in attacking areas.
Despite showing flashes of his potential, Santos has found regular first-team opportunities at Chelsea difficult to secure due to intense competition for places in midfield. The club’s significant investment in the position has left the Brazilian seeking a clearer pathway to consistent senior football, with Manchester United now prepared to offer him that opportunity.
United have been looking to refresh their midfield options and add younger players capable of developing into long-term starters. Santos’ profile is believed to have appealed to the club’s recruitment team, who view his energy, passing range and tactical awareness as qualities that could suit the demands of the Premier League.
The agreement between the two clubs represents a rare piece of business between two direct domestic rivals. While negotiations between Premier League teams can often prove complicated, both sides are understood to have found common ground on a deal structure that benefits all parties.
For Chelsea, the move would allow Santos to continue his development while also providing financial flexibility as the club continues to manage a large squad.
The midfielder has previously gained valuable experience away from Stamford Bridge, including a loan spell at French side Strasbourg, where he continued to develop his game in a competitive European environment.
Manchester United are expected to complete the remaining formalities before the transfer is officially confirmed, including a medical and final contract details. The club’s supporters will hope Santos can become another key addition as United continue their efforts to build a younger and more dynamic squad.
The arrival of Santos would add further competition in midfield and provide managerial options alongside the club’s existing players. United’s move signals their intention to invest in emerging talent while targeting individuals capable of making an immediate impact and growing into important figures at Old Trafford
