Former Liverpool midfielder and pundit Danny Murphy has revealed he would like to see the Reds complete a summer move for highly-rated Yan Diomande, with reports continuing to link the teenager with a switch from RB Leipzig to Liverpool .
Diomande has emerged as one of the most sought-after young attackers in European football following a breakthrough campaign in Germany. The Ivory Coast international’s pace, direct running and ability in one-on-one situations have attracted interest from several leading clubs, with Liverpool making contact with Leipzig over a potential deal.
Murphy believes the winger would be an ideal addition to Liverpool’s attacking options, particularly as the club look to refresh their forward line and prepare for the future. The pundit has praised Diomande’s potential and sees him as the type of explosive wide player capable of making an immediate impact at Anfield.
LIVERPOOL are reported to have made Diomande one of their priority targets, with the club understood to be willing to invest heavily to secure his signature. Reports have suggested the Reds could be prepared to make an offer in the region of £86 million, although Leipzig’s valuation is believed to be considerably higher
Murphy told BetWright: “I hope so because I think he’s a terrific player. I don’t think they should have been looking at Diomande for the money they were talking about anyway. He is a super talent, but that’s all he is: a talent. He’s a prospect.
“Paying over the odds for a player based on potential, I’m not sure over £100m for a player who hasn’t a body of work that justifies that money was the right way to go. In a way, it might be a blessing.
“Barcola would be less expensive and obviously maybe surplus to requirements with the signings PSG are making. We’ve seen in the Champions League for the last couple of years now the impact he can have on games, so it’s a less risky signing.”
LIVERPOOL are not alone in their admiration, with Paris Saint-Germain and other European giants also monitoring developments. Competition for Diomande’s signature could make negotiations complicated, particularly with Leipzig holding a strong position due to the player’s long-term contract.
Despite the challenges, Murphy’s backing adds further attention to Liverpool’s pursuit. The former midfielder believes Diomande’s combination of youth, technical quality and attacking flair could make him a valuable long-term investment for the club.
