Dark horses, upsets, and wonderkids being tipped with big-money Premier League or Real Madrid transfers. Those are the three things you can guarantee with any World Cup.
This week has seen the Mexican attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora linked with a transfer switch to Liverpool (and Arsenal and others), but the 17-year-old is not the only youngster being tipped for a switch.
Australia center-back Lucas Herrington, 18, who currently plays for Colorado Rapids in MLS, is the latest to be touted for a big move off the back of his performances in the US. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are all said to be keen.
According to TeamTalk, Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle are also interested, while Manchester City and Barcelona are both claimed to have made contact for the teenager.
Herrington was born in Australia and has already played six times at senior international level for his country. He also had the option to represent any one of Germany, Finland, or Zimbabwe.
A move to Europe feels inevitable at some point, and Liverpool could do with a bit more defensive depth. Adding another teenager in that position, however, would come with risks.

So far this summer, Liverpool has only signed Victor Munoz in forward areas. Jeremy Jacquet has also come in, with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate leaving.
Andoni Iraola is keen to assess the roster that he inherits from Arne Slot, but more signings will be required to ensure he has enough options to choose from once the season begins.
"The senior players that have played in the World Cup, they've been feeling the pressure, they've been playing for their countries, and I think they need and deserve a rest," Iraola said when he arrived.
"And also this allows us to give also important minutes to train more closely with the young players that probably we don't know as well.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"Because we've been here already three seasons, playing a lot of times against Liverpool, and there are players that we already know.
"But there are other players probably that haven't had the minutes, have played for the development squad, have been on loan somewhere, and I think those trainings, those minutes will be very valuable for us to take decisions."
Liverpool.com says: Signing another defender to replace Konate should be on the agenda to help out Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, and not much too much pressure on the legs of Virgil van Dijk.

That player should be someone more experienced, though. Signing a teenager from MLS would not really address the immediate need for someone more experienced and more reliable fitness-wise than Joe Gomez.
