Arsenal now have a clearer idea of the fee it could take to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. And while Andrea Berta is not believed to have directly been in communication with Newcastle yet regarding negotiating a potential transfer, a formal approach does look likely to be made.

Reports emerged on Wednesday claiming that Guimaraes had expressed a desire to leave Newcastle, with suggestions that the Brazilian had informed the Magpies of his wish to join Arsenal.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a possible £60m move for Guimaraes throughout the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their Premier League title defence.

There has now been a fresh update about Guimaraes’ future at Newcastle and Arsenal’s plans to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mail have reported that a £75million offer could see progress made on a deal to take Guimaraes to Arsenal, with further talks expected to take place after an initial offer was turned down by Newcastle.

The report also claims that there is “astonishment” at Newcastle that Berta, Arsenal’s sporting director, is yet to approach the Magpies over a deal for Guimaraes.

Guimaraes remains under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2028, and it remains to be seen if Arsenal can agree a deal to sign the Brazil international before the transfer window closes.

The midfielder was recently with the Brazil squad for the World Cup in North America, helping his country reach the last-16 of the tournament before losing to Norway.

Reports in The Athletic have previously reported that Arsenal had seen a £55million bid for Guimaraes rejected by Newcastle, with suggestions that the Gunners could offer up to £60million for the midfielder.

Newcastle have already had a busy summer transfer window when it comes to departures, with Anthony Gordon leaving St James’ Park to join Barcelona in a deal worth £69m.

Sandro Tonali also left Newcastle this week to complete a permanent switch to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £100million with add-ons.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle would sanction Guimaraes’ exit to Arsenal after seeing two key players already leave the club in the same transfer window.
