Spurs warned over Kroupi hijack in Premier League battle for £85m star

Eli Junior Kroupi can become one of the best goal scorers in the Premier League if he joins the right club this summer.

That's the opinion of European football expert Andy Brassell, who backed the striker to push towards Sergio Aguero-sort-of numbers.

Eli Junior Kroupi transfer latest

talkSPORT previously reported that Tottenham are believed to be lining up an £85million bid for the France Under-21 international.

Arsenal have also shown interest in Kroupi, who scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season.

However, Brassell has exclusively told talkSPORT.com that the 20-year-old 'would be absolutely great at Manchester United.'

"If Eli Junior Kroupi can make the right move this summer, he can be one of the best goal scorers in the Premier League," Brassell said.

"An incredible start to his career in the Premier League after coming over from Lorient, with that special relationship that Lorient and Bournemouth have, scoring 13 in 21 starts.

"He's only 19 and not many teenagers have had a start like that, having come from abroad in the Premier League.

"I guess the thing that was most noticeable about him in such a fast-paced environment is his movement and what a natural finisher he is when given the opportunity.

"Now, having done that for Bournemouth, it's natural, of course, that other Premier League clubs and big Premier League clubs are having a look at him."

Spursare now readying an opening offer for Kroupi, but Bournemouth are adamant that he is not for sale this summer.

Kroupi to Spurs?

Brassell continued: "The most closely linked with him in recent days is Tottenham, of course, who are on a huge spending spree at the moment, completely reshaping the face of their team after a couple of bad seasons and under the demands of new coach Roberto De Zerbi.

"And I think if you look at the sort of football that De Zerbi likes to play, Kroupi is a natural fit for it because the movement is so intelligent and because once he gets in those spots, he's a very, very tidy finisher indeed with both feet.

"He's going to improve the rest of his game. The involvement outside the box is something that will come. As we said, he's only 20 now.

"There's clearly a lot of work to do. And we know that Premier League clubs like to invest in potential as much as they do current aptitude.

"So when you look at the sort of strikers that succeeded under De Zerbi before, and you look at the sort of forwards that he likes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being a key one in recent years at Marseille, you can see exactly how Kroupi would fit.

Tottenham's dream XI for the 2026/27 season

There aren't many familiar faces from last season in Tottenham's dream XI for the 2026/27 campaign

"Now, the fact is, though, Bournemouth have a hot property and they know they have a hot property.

"So they won't be letting him go cheaply. We're pushing up, I think, already to 85 million, 90 million, which might seem a shocking amount to some.

"But I think there are a couple of aspects of this to consider. The fact that he has got such huge potential is what makes it expensive.

"And the fact that at the moment he's already producing at a very high level, but not one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, makes the big ones think that, 'OK, if we get this guy, we could turn him into something even more special, something that could dominate the league.'

"Someone who could be pushing up towards Aguero sort of numbers if we can get our hooks into him.

'Would be absolutely great at Man United'

"So the fact that you have interest maybe from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United as well, and I think it would be absolutely great at Manchester United as they seek to progress their game under Michael Carrick, makes total sense.

"Bournemouth hold all the cards with Kroupi; there's no doubt about that, because they'll either get paid an absolute fortune for him, or they'll keep him and he'll manage to prove himself in Europe.

"So unless he suffers a massive drop in form with Bournemouth going into the Europa League this season, he'll be only increasing his value going forward.

"Bournemouth, I think, are in a really good spot as they decide where they're going to sell him to, or if indeed they're going to sell him."

Tottenham have already broken their transfer record twice this summer, following the£100m signing of Sandro Tonali.

That came after Mateus Fernandes' arrival from West Ham in a deal worth £85m, with a £50m deal for Jan Paul van Hecke also struck.

Elsewhere in the backline, free transfers have been agreed for Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson and Martin Dubravka, but a new striker is still on their wishlist.

"For Tottenham, the team that have really been with our reliable goalscorer for a long time, especially with the Randal Kolo Muani signing not coming off after he arrived unfit last season, this could be the player that scores the goals that finally gets them up the table a little bit."
