Newcastle United Star Won’t “Force” Gunners Move

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães will not try to “force” through a move to Arsenal.

The club has been rocked by the news that the 28-year-old wants to join the Gunners.

But Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Guimarães will not force the issue and instead allow the club to decide his future.

Guimarães Is “Happy To Go to Arsenal”

Arsenal have admired Guimarães since 2020, before he joined Lyon.

The links reemerged in 2022, but the Brazilian opted to sign for Newcastle instead in a £40m deal.

Now history is repeating itself, as Arsenal pursue him again.

They submitted a £55m bid through intermediaries for him last month, but that was rejected by Newcastle.

Romano reported on X that Arsenal then offered £65m, but that was turned down too.

He says that an offer between “£65-90m” could “accelerate talks” between the two clubs.

But the good news for Newcastle, who don’t want to sell their talisman, is that Guimarães will not try to force the club to sell him, like Alexander Isak did.

Romano said on his YouTube channel (via Football Insider):

“[Then] Bruno Guimarães, from what I understand, didn’t tell Newcastle something in Alexander Isak story style like one year ago – sell me or I am not going to stay here.

“Bruno Guimarães wants to be respectful with Newcastle. If Newcastle can reach an agreement with Arsenal, Bruno will be happy to go to Arsenal.

“If this doesn’t happen, Bruno Guimarães will not create problems to Newcastle.”

Guimarães’ contract runs until 2028.

Guimarães “Concerned” About Newcastle’s Project

One of the reasons cited for Guimarães wanting to leave are his “concerns” about the speed and direction of the club’s project.

After the takeover in 2021, there were big boasts about competing for the top trophies within 10 years.

CEO David Hopkinson repeated those claims in an interview in January, saying that the ownership’s aim was for Newcastle to be one of the world’s top clubs “by 2030”.

However, Chronicle Live revealed that the sales of stars like Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, combined with missing out on Europe, have caused Guimarães to doubt the club’s ambition.

Newcastle’s incomings so far – three young, untested players – show the direction the club wants to move in. That may have only reinforced Guimarães’ doubts about his future.
