Bruno Guimaraes' age could be a sticking point for Arsenal in any transfer with Newcastle United. The Brazilian informed the Magpies he wishes to depart the club this summer.
Newcastle have already rejected a verbal offer understood to be in the range of £55million from Mikel Arteta's side. Their position is still the same; they have no interest in selling him, particularly after allowing fellow midfielder Sandro Tonali to join Tottenham in a £100m transfer.
It's understood Arsenal are willing to fork out £60m for the ex-Lyon star and will not want to go above that figure, with Guimaraes turning 29 in November. Moreover, the futures of Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi may also be impacted by a move for him.

Norgaard only made seven Premier League appearances after arriving from Brentford last season. He is already behind Declan Rice, Zubimendi and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who was deployed in midfield towards the end of last season, in the pecking order.
A move for Guimaraes would plonk him down even further down the list, meaning a move for the Dane is surely likely. However, Guimaraes' arrival may also bother Zubimendi, who arrived from Real Sociedad for £60m last season.

It's understood by the BBC the signing of a new midfielder like Guimaraes will result in one current midfield star being flogged in the transfer window. Rice has been indispensable to Arteta, so the prospect of him being sold is close to impossible.
Lewis-Skelly also signed a new long-term contract with the club last year and will not be sold under any circumstances. This leaves Norgaard and Zubimendi as the two defensive midfielders who could make way.

The fact Norgaard made so little appearances last year suggests he is the most likely to depart the Emirates Stadium. However, with Zubimendi's position as a starting midfielder surely coming under threat, in the event Guimaraes arrives, he may also look to venture elsewhere.
Either way, it's the biggest sign Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are not resting on their laurels after last season's extraordinary campaign. Twenty-two years of Premier League pain was ended and the Champions League was almost secured.

The signings may not stop there, as Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain is also understood to be on their transfer radar. Aston Villa and England ace Morgan Rogers is also believed to be on the club's radar, although his £130m valuation will be difficult to meet.
Arsenal are yet to sign anybody in the transfer window, but Polish international Jakub Kiwior has been sold to Porto on a permanent deal, while Leandro Trossard is also joining Besiktas in a £17.1m deal.
