Mohamed Salah is expected to decide his next move soon following Egypt’s exit from the World Cup, and the Liverpool legend is wanted by former club Roma.

Egypt were knocked out of the World Cup in brutal, controversial fashion as they let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2 in the last 16 to tournament favourites Argentina.

It leaves Salah to mull over his future, with the 34-year-old having officially left Liverpool on July 1 after agreeing to rip up his contract a year early.

With a return to Liverpool considered highly unlikely despite Arne Slot‘s sacking, Salah is instead expected to leave the Premier League.

A move back to Serie A is among his options, with the Mail‘s Lewis Steele reporting that both Roma and Juventus hold an interest.

Roma have “explored the idea of bringing him back” after two outstanding seasons at the Stadio Olimpico between 2015 and 2017, but both Italian clubs “could be hamstrung by the finances involved.”

The same applies to those in the Saudi Pro League, with Steele writing that, despite links with Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal, there is “no guarantee they can work out the finances.”

He explains that “the race is wide open right now,” with further suitors in the Turkish Super Lig and MLS.

It is that interest from MLS that is perhaps most intriguing, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealing contact from the United States in an update on YouTube this week.

“He has the possibility from Saudi. They’ve always wanted Mo Salah, he’s always been a top target,” Romano explained.

“But my understanding is that also from MLS, some calls took place to understand the situation of Mo Salah.

“So MLS could be a possibility as well. MLS, Saudi…let’s see what Salah decides.”

Which MLS club would Mo Salah join?

If Salah were to make the switch to MLS, the expectation is that he would join San Diego FC, who are owned by fellow Egyptian Mohamed Mansour.

According to The Athletic’s MLS correspondent Tom Bogert, speaking to The Redmen TV, while they do not hold discovery rights for Salah – which would give them priority to sign him over any other MLS club – he is considered theirs if they want him.

“It’s been made clear to other teams in the league: you cannot put Mo Salah on your discovery list,” Bogert said.

“Because if San Diego want him, San Diego’s getting him. If he comes to MLS, it’s going to be San Diego, unless San Diego tell us that they don’t want him.

“I don’t know if it’s likely, it would be a lot of money, it would be a very complicated deal…but it’s not an impossibility.”
