Arsenal’s long-running pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes appears to have taken another significant step, with the Newcastle captain now informing the club he wants to leave and complete a move to the Premier League champions.
The Gunners have tracked the Brazilian throughout the summer, with an initial verbal approach worth around £55 million rejected, but recent reports suggest Arsenal are preparing to return as Guimaraes pushes for the transfer.

The 28-year-old has arguably been Newcastle’s most influential player since arriving from Lyon in January 2022, but last season underlined his importance more than ever.
Guimaraes captained Eddie Howe’s side throughout a difficult campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions and finishing as Newcastle’s leading Premier League scorer with nine league goals, the best scoring return of his career.
Beyond his club form, he also impressed for Brazil at the World Cup overall, despite missing a penalty against Norway, providing four assists in five matches before their elimination.

He could bridge those two roles perfectly, offering creativity and leadership from deeper positions.
His performances throughout 25/26 proved that, and if Arsenal are serious about staying at the top of English football and challenging for the Champions League, signing Guimaraes would strengthen arguably the only area of the team still capable of becoming even better.
That being said, his arrival would almost certainly spell the end for Christian Norgaard, with Arsenal believed to be open to offers for the Dane.
