Arsenal have got a major boost for Morten Hjulmand’s transfer. As per recent news, the Gunners have renewed their interest in the player after Sporting CP refused to accept the offer from Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal renew pursuit for Hjulmand
As reported by Football London, the Sporting CP chief revealed that the club refused Atletico Madrid’s offer. That’s why **the Gunners**are back on the transfer table. Apart from the Portuguese club, Manchester City is also in the race for securing the transfer of the 27-year-old defensive midfielder. Even Manchester United have been linked with Hjulmand for the upcoming season. It will be interesting to see which club manages to secure the Danish defensive midfielder.
Hjulmand is the current skipper for Sporting CP. He was signed by the Portuguese club in August 2023 for a total amount of €21 million. He signed a five-year contract that will expire by 2028. Before joining Sporting CP, the Danish defender played for Lecce between 2021 and 2023. He previously played for Admira Wacker between 2018 and 2020.

Benefits of Morten Hjulmand’s potential entry
Hjulmand will be a great addition to the North London club. Though Arsenal doesn’t need a major transformation in the defence, Hjulmand’s potential entry will only be a bonus. The Gunners have won back the Premier League title, and they will love to maintain the winning momentum.
Hjulmand led Sporting CP to multiple honors last year. The Portuguese club finished second in the Primeira Liga. They also finished runners-up in the Taca de Portugal and Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. They also made it to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Naturally, Hjulmand will be a great choice for Arsenal if he agrees to their offer.
Future Gameplan for Morten Hjulmand
Hjulmand needs to work really hard on his fitness. He sustained an ankle injury in April 2026, which pulled him out of action for the rest of the **football**season. The Danish defensive midfielder couldn’t make it to the ongoing FIFA World Cup either. Denmark made it to the UEFA playoff finals for the World Cup qualifiers. However, they lost to Czech Republic on penalties. Hjulmand is not disappointed though. He is hopeful of being back in action by the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are looking out for other players as well. Jules Kounde, Ezri Konsa, and Martin Zubimendi are some of the top players sought by Arsenal. Likewise, the Gunners are aiming to secure Hjulmand as soon as possible. It won’t be an easy job. However, the North London club are hopeful about the same. They want a side capable of repeating the heroics of the 2025-26 season.
The Gunners ended a 22-year drought for the Premier League title. They also finished runners-up in the UEFA Champions League. Team manager Mikel Arteta will want nothing less than a repeat performance in the 2026-27 season. That’s why the management is aiming for the best side by the upcoming season. That’s also the reason Hjulmand is on their priority list. He worked wonders for the Sporting CP last year as the team’s captain. If he joins the North London club, he can take them to unprecedented glory. It remains to be seen if Hjulmand is equally interested in joining the Emirates Stadium for the 2026-27 season.
