Liverpool need homegrown players this summer.

Although it shouldn't really be how they dictate which players to sign and which players to get rid of, since Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez could all be leaving, there's going to be a lot of homegrown slots available in the Reds' team.

And, if they keep signing foreign players, they'll run into the same problems as last season where Federico Chiesa was initially left out of their Champions League squad.

This is far from ideal, especially with how small their squad already is, so, adding homegrown players to their ranks should be one of their main priorities.

But, the fact that Elliott Anderson has just joined Manchester City for £116 million proves how hard a good deal for one is to come by.

That is, unless Richard Hughes reignites Liverpool's interest in this player.

Liverpool must throw their hat back into the ring for Mateus Mane

When Wolves were confirmed to be going down, several clubs were linked with a move for Mateus Mane.

The 18-year-old had a bit of a breakout season at the Molineux as he spent 90 per cent of the minutes he played as one of their starting players.

He played 30 games across all competitions for the Premier League outfit and contributed to five goals in that time.

Mane also played across the attack with stints coming on the left-wing, as a striker and as a number 10.

Indeed, this does mean that his arrival wouldn't solve the Reds' burning issue of needing a right-winger but, alongside Rio Ngumoha, they could have two of the best young attackers in the Premier League.

As mentioned, talk about Mane's future seems to have died down recently so, if Liverpool were to re-enter the race, there's a chance that, alongside getting an extremely talented player, they'd also be able to sign Mane for a decent fee.

Signing Mateus Mane would be a good move for Liverpool

Away from all of the other reasons previously listed about why Mane would be a good signing for Liverpool, he'd also help them start to lock down their future.

The fact that the 18-year-old has already played 28 games in the Premier League is fairly impressive.

The amount of experience that he'll have had from just featuring in those games is unreal and is one of the main reasons why Liverpool should try to acquire his services.

Signing players with no Premier League experience has always been a risk that clubs have had to take.

However, with Liverpool wanting to get back to the top of the table and wanting to start competing for silverware again, they need top-flight proven players who can instantly hit the ground running.

Without this, it's hard to see how Iraola will do any better than Arne Slot, which, after just relieving him from his duties due to poor performance, is rather scary to think about.
