Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling thinks Bruno Guimaraes would be "crazy" to swap Newcastle United for a life in London. The Magpies captain has informed the club of his desire to leave this summer.

Arsenal have shown interest in the midfielder, though Newcastle officials have already turned down a verbal approach. Ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor suggests Guimaraes is keen to move in order to compete for silverware.

The former England international also floated the possibility that the Brazilian may be attracted to living in the capital. If that's the motivation, Stelling thinks it would be a bizarre decision.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: "He wants to come to Arsenal now to win trophies. He's seen Arsenal win the Premier League and got to the Champions League final, he's going to win more trophies now at Arsenal than he will at Newcastle.

"They've sold Tonali, last season they sold Isak, Gordon has gone as well, who's next? Is it Barnes? I understand the reason why he is moving but I do think, a little part of it, is coming to the capital city, one of the best cities in the world."

An astonished Stelling then responded: "Trophies and money, I can have that, but swapping Newcastle for London? Are you crazy," to which Agbonlahor replied: "I think a lot of people would prefer to live in London."

Stelling didn't hold back in his critique of the capital, adding: "Even with it's overflowing rubbish on the streets, it's impossible to get around.

"You look at Newcastle and the beauty of it, the theatre royal, and the architecture of Grey Street and Grey's Monument. You've got the racecourse, Hadrian's wall is just outside the city.

"It's a dream venue. It is one of Europe's great cities. So I don't think he's moving for that. If he goes to Arsenal, what is he going to do, live in the Holloway Road?".

Newcastle have already offloaded Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for approximately £69.3m, while Tonali is poised to complete a £100m switch to Spurs. Arsenal are now understood to be keen on securing Guimaraes, who celebrates his 29th birthday in November.

That said, his age may mean the Gunners are reluctant to part with more than £60m for his signature. Thus far, Newcastle have maintained their stance that the former Lyon midfielder, who has racked up 195 appearances with 31 goals and 32 assists, is not for sale.
