Liverpool are willing to sit down with AC Milan this summer to discuss a deal for Virgil van Dijk, but the Dutchman’s contract remains an issue.

Liverpool exit possible
Virgil van Dijk is currently in the final year of his deal at Anfield. So far there have been no talks or suggestions that a new deal is on the cards.
That has led to various reports about a potential exit this summer. Sport Witness have covered several of these reports, most focused around Galatasaray’s efforts to sign the Dutchman.
AC Milan have also been named as a potential suitor, though. They’re undertaking a major summer spend to revive their squad.
A report a week ago explained that the Netherland’s early exit from the World Cup could speed up the process.
Liverpool open to talks
Now TMW and Bucchioni report that work is well underway, and, crucially, Liverpool are willing to sit down and talk.
“Work is now underway on Van Dijk, a brilliant idea from Ibrahimovic,” the report reads.
“It’s a complicated, extremely difficult operation, but not impossible. The biggest hurdle is his wage, which stands at around €15m – unthinkable for the Rossoneri.
“The Dutchman is 34, but he could still be the great leader Milan have been searching for for far too long. Liverpool are ready to sit down for talks; we’re monitoring developments and exploring ways to spread the salary over time.”
The question then, is whether Virgil van Dijk is willing to drop his wages this summer to secure a move away from Liverpool.
His €15m a year wages have already been cited in both Italy and Türkiye as a problem that his potential suitors need to find a way around. That’s certainly the case for Milan, who are hoping to find a solution to the issue.
