Cody Gakpo faces an uncertain Liverpool future, but as it stands the Dutchman is not guaranteed the leave the club despite interest from Tottenham and others.
Having been one of Arne Slot‘s most-used players – only seven made 100 or more appearances for the former Liverpool head coach – Gakpo’s position is less safe under Andoni Iraola.
That is according to reports around the Dutchman’s future, with the club not opposed to selling their No. 18 for the right offer.
But while Gakpo could be available for upwards of £60 million this summer, Liverpool are still “planning for” next season with him as part of Iraola’s squad.
Speaking to The Redmen TV‘s Dan Clubbe, journalist Lewis Steele explained: “He’s not as off-limits as he was maybe 12 months ago.
“But I still think I’d be surprised if he wasn’t a Liverpool player come the end of the summer transfer window.
“I think the word internally is that they’re planning for [next season] with him.”
Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Gakpo, while Bayern Munich attempted to sign the 27-year-old last summer and are still thought to be seeking another left winger.

But any speculation around his future has remained in the background so far, with Tottenham actively working on other areas at this stage of the summer.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have strengthened in midfield and defence with the signings of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, while also bringing in backup goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
However they are yet to add to their attack and saw Randal Kolo Muani return to Paris Saint-Germain after his season-long loan.

That could therefore see the situation around Gakpo change later in the summer, which would explain Liverpool’s stance.
Given the Reds are yet to adequately replace Mo Salah and could also see Federico Chiesa leave this summer, it is no surprise they are not rushing another starting attacker through the exit door.
Gakpo signed a new five-year contract last year meaning he is committed to the club until 2030, which strengthens Liverpool’s hand in any negotiations over a potential sale.
The winger is set to join up for pre-season training later this month after the conclusion of the Netherlands’ World Cup endeavours – in which he scored three goals in four games.
