Bruno Guimaraes: Arsenal’s initial €70m offer rejected by Newcastle, contract agreement in place

**Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has agreed a five-year deal with Arsenal and informed the Magpies that he wants to leave this summer.**

[L’Equipe report that](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Mercato-le-milieu-bresilien-de-newcastle-bruno-guimaraes-d-accord-sur-un-contrat-de-5-ans-avec-arsenal/1702902) Guimaraes has already reached an agreement with Arsenal and the Gunners have sent an initial €70m bid to St James Park.

**Arsenal bid rejected**

------------------------

The newspaper reports that Arsenal have firmly set their sights on Bruno Guimaraes his summer. They want the Brazilian to bolster their midfielder and talks are ‘gathering pace’.

After coming to terms with Brazil’s exit from the World Cup, the 28-year-old has, according to L’Equipe’s sources, now agreed terms on a five-year contract with Mikel Arteta’s side.

He has also informed the Magpies’ management, and Eddie Howe, of his desire to move to London. He wants to play in the Champions League next season.

Arsenal have followed that up with a €70m offer. That has already been rejected by Newcastle. But the Magpies know that they are in a precarious position.

Guimaraes only has two years left on his current deal. That makes this summer the perfect time to sell him. They would be forced to sell for a lower figure next summer when he would have only a year left on his contract. Guimaraes stock is also high after four assists at the World Cup.

**Newcastle want €90m**

-----------------------

Arsenal are expected to return with another, fresh bid. That could be closer to the €90m that Newcastle are looking for.

The matter is being closely followed by Bruno Guimaraes’ former club Lyon. They sold the Brazilian to Newcastle for €50m in January 2022. That deal included a 20% share of any future capital gain.

So, as an example, if the deal were to go through for €80m, the French side would receive around €6m as a result. Like everyone else, they are now watching and waiting for Arsenal’s next moves.

Guimaraes, though, appears determined to leave. He’s made his stance clear, after already [speaking about his future earlier this year.](https://sportwitness.co.uk/we-changed-newcastles-level-bruno-guimaraes-reflects-on-remarkable-rise-and-gives-future-hint/)
