Arsenal preparing £35m swoop for 22-goal star

Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with Club Brugge for the transfer of Christos Tzolis, according to The Sun.

The Gunners recently agreed to sanction Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas for £17 million. The Belgian is likely to negotiate terms with the Turkish outfit after the World Cup.

There is optimism that Trossard will part ways with the Premier League holders, and The Sun claim that a replacement is already on the way, with a deal almost agreed for Tzolis.

Arsenal are in advanced negotiations with Brugge and are prepared to secure a deal for the Greek star. A package of around £35m could be finalised for the 24-year-old’s transfer.

The Gunners need to give the final go-ahead for the winger to travel to London for his medical. This is more likely to happen once Trossard formally agrees to join Besiktas.

Arsenal’s move for Tzolis won’t hamper their ongoing pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

Tzolis would be a solid replacement for Trossard

The Greece international signed for Brugge from Fortuna Dusseldorf in the summer of 2024. He had a fantastic debut season and fared much better during his second year.

Tzolis registered a staggering tally of 22 goals and 29 assists from 52 appearances last term. He primarily operated on the left wing and caught the eye with his dribbling, finishing and chance creation.

The 24-year-old had a tough Premier League spell as a teenager with Norwich City, but he has made immense progress in recent years. He made goal contributions against Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Atalanta during the league phase of last season’s Champions League.

Of course, Tzolis has yet to prove himself at the highest level in Europe’s top five leagues, but Arsenal seem to believe in his potential. He would be a good deputy for the left wing position with the Gunners poised to pursue a marquee acquisition. Rogers is clearly the prime target.

Tzolis looks likely to slot in as a replacement for Trossard. If Arsenal were to secure a deal for Rogers or another marquee left winger, it could directly impact the future of Gabriel Martinelli.

Martinelli has a contract until June 2027 with an option for 12 months. He showed promise as a number eight for Brazil at the World Cup, but may have to accept a reduced role to stay next term.
