Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with Arsenal as the Gunners now look to agree on a fee for the wantaway Newcastle star.

The Magpies are facing the summer from hell and their captain has now informed the club of his desire to leave. He was signed in 2022 and has become a talismanic figure at St James' Park, but looks to have had his head turned by the Premier League champions.

L'Equipe reports that the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms over a move to the Emirates, which would see the 28-year-old play for Arsenal until his mid-30s.

The issue now is whether Arsenal can agree on a price with Newcastle, who have reportedly rejected an opening offer and ultimately don't want to sell. If they did sanction his departure, a figure north of £100million would be demanded.

His former club Lyon do stand to benefit financially from any move having included a sell-on clause when Guimaraes moved to St James' Park midseason four years ago. He's gone on to play 195 times and score on 31 occasions.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to take his side to the next level following the Premier League triumph. Despite having Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi as central midfield options he's still keen on landing Guimaraes.

The Brazilian was the man who lifted Newcastle's first domestic trophy in 70 years when he led them to Carabao Cup glory two seasons ago - but a poor season coupled with several high profile exits could now lead him to leaving as well.

Newcastle endured a poor season, which came off the back of them selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record fee on deadline day. During this window they've already allowed Anthony Gordon head to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali leave for Tottenham.

That has recouped them £170m, meaning their need to sell has massively decreased, but the exits have sparked concerns over the club's direction and ambition. Losing Guimaraes would be a massive hammer blow as Newcastle's leading lights continue to depart the club.
