The Netherlands manager’s job has been one of the hottest seats in international football since Ronald Koeman stepped down following the Dutch side’s World Cup exit this summer.
His resignation immediately triggered a wave of speculation over who could fill one the role.
One name has consistently risen to the surface in Arne Slot.
Reliable journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reported earlier this month that Slot had already held initial talks with the Dutch FA and sits firmly on their shortlist to become the next Netherlands head coach.
The story carries obvious intrigue for Liverpool supporters too. Additionally, should Slot take the role, he would be reunited on international duty with Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Jeremie Frimpong.
However, Slot is not alone in the race.
PSV Eindhoven manager Peter Bosz has emerged as another credible option, with Algemeen Dagblad reporting the Dutch FA explored the possibility of appointing him even before Koeman’s exit.
Erik ten Hag, now serving as technical director at FC Twente after his Manchester United stint, has also been mentioned.
But it appears that the former United boss has ruled himself out of the race, as he is currently happy at FC Twente.
“I’m not available,” Ten Hag said to Tubantia.
“I have deliberately chosen this step. I’m working on that for the next two years anyway. I’m having a good time here and would like to help the club further.”
Germany are set to turn to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp following Julian Nagelsmann’s exit, and their first competitive game is away to the Netherlands in the Nations League on 24 September.
