Teshaun Murisa gained a considerable amount of experience last season as he featured prominently for Arsenal U18s.
The defensive midfielder, who progressed all the way through the ranks at Hale End before signing scholarship terms last summer, also made two substitute appearances at U21 level as he featured against Exeter in the EFL Trophy and Sunderland in Premier League 2.
Murisa, 17, will be eager to play more regularly for the older age group this time around but he will be aware that Ife Ibrahim is well established as the club’s first-choice defensive midfielder at U21 level.
However, if there are any occasions when Ibrahim isn’t available then Murisa will be determined to demonstrate that he can make an impact.
The youngster is capable of breaking up play well and has also filled in at right-back on some occasions.
Given that he is still eligible for the U18s this season it seems likely that Murisa will continue to feature at that level, at least at the start of the season.
As the campaign wears on, though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Murisa becoming an increasingly familiar presence in the U21 squad.
Given that he has already signed a professional contract, Murisa has time on his side as he looks to fully break into the U21 side. He will be determined, though, for the process to happen as quickly as possible.
