Ona Batlle is now officially a Gunner, and brings a wealth of WSL and European pedigree to north London, having played on the biggest stages for a number of years.
Given that, you might be familiar with her exploits, but here’s a refresher just in case you need it, as well as an insight into her life away from the pitch:
EARLY YEARS
The Spanish full-back was born in Vilassar de Mar in 1999, where she was scouted by Barcelona in 2011.
Looking up to Dani Alves, she came through the youth setup at La Masia before moving to Madrid CFF in 2017, Levante in 2018 and then Manchester United for a first taste of WSL football in 2020.
FIRST MOVE OVERSEAS
Ona spent three seasons up in Manchester, where her time overlapped with Alessia Russo. In her debut campaign in the north-west, Batlle was voted by her teammates and coaching staff as United's Women’s Player of the Year, having made 23 appearances for the Red Devils.
In 2021/22 and 2022/23 she was also recognised in the PFA Team of the Year, and won the PFA WSL Fans’ Player of the Year in the latter.
HOME SWEET HOME
Batlle returned to Barcelona in 2023 and, over the last three seasons, she has scored nine goals in 66 domestic league appearances.
She played plenty of football for Barca across those campaigns, making 39, 38 and 37 appearances respectively in all competitions across the 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, winning league titles in all three campaigns.
With the Catalan club she also won four Copa de la Reina trophies, three Supercopa de Espana cups and two Champions Leagues, also reaching the 2025 final in the other campaign where Barcelona were beaten by us.
FLYING THE FLAG
At international level, Batlle featured regularly for Spain’s under-17s and under-19s side and, since 2019, has earned 76 caps for the senior team. She also played one game for Catalonia in 2019.
For Spain, she played the entirety of their 1-0 win over England in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, and has also won the 2024 and 2025 Nations League tournaments.
Further accolades include a spot in The Best FIFA Women’s 11 for 2023 and 2025, the FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World 11 in 2025, and places in the Primera Division Team of the Year for 2024/25 and 2025/26.
INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
Batlle was recently spotted at Wimbledon alongside her partner, Lucy Bronze, but another sport she was particularly interested in before football was rollerblading!
As well as walking with her dog, Ona has also started studying finance and psychology, and has previously said if she weren't a footballer, she might be a policewoman.
