Arsenal are set to have any underwhelming bids for Bruno Guimaraes rejected by Newcastle United. The Magpies are believed to remain confident that the Brazilian midfielder commands a premium price tag.

Chronicle Live have reported that Arsenal are of the belief that now represents the optimal moment for Newcastle to cash in, given that Guimaraes' contract is entering its final two years.

Reports emerging from London overnight suggested Arsenal had tabled a lucrative five-year deal that would prove financially transformative for the 28-year-old.

However, since Newcastle holds an option for an additional year on the player, the Magpies maintain that Guimaraes is firmly under contract at St James' Park, and they have no intention of letting him go cheaply.

With no release clause in play, Newcastle could feasibly hold out for considerably more than the £60m figure intermediaries are floating, or alternatively seek interest from elsewhere if they choose to do so.

Earlier this week, reports suggested Guimaraes formally requested a transfer from Newcastle amid interest from Arsenal, although the Magpies have since dismissed this.

Suggestions also indicate that an offer in the region of £75million could prove more successful for Arsenal if they submit a bid for the Newcastle star.

With Arsenal reportedly preparing an official offer, it risks falling short, much like Liverpool's initial £110m bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak last August, which was promptly rejected before the Reds returned on deadline day with £125m.

That approach successfully unsettled Isak, and a similar scenario could play out with Guimaraes, as Eddie Howe and his coaching team are eager to welcome the Brazilian back for pre-season.

Arsenal are set to have a busy summer transfer window with Guimaraes one of several players linked with a move to the Emirates.

The Gunners also have an interest in Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, while speculation also suggests Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola could also be a target.

Mikel Arteta has already added one new signing to their squad, with Illan Meslier arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Leeds United expired earlier this summer.
