Newcastle United 'identify' Bruno Guimaraes replacement amid Arsenal interest - Ross Wilson…

Newcastle United transfer round-up: Magpies linked with pair Ross Wilson knows well.

It’s been a mixed week for Newcastle United on the transfer window front with an incoming overshadowed by reports of another potential major outgoing.

As the Magpies finalised a £23million deal for highly-rated midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax, news broke of Bruno Guimaraes’ wish to leave the club and join Arsenal.

Newcastle declined to comment on the speculation, though it’s understood the Premier League are yet to make contact over signing the Brazilian. United insist their skipper is not for sale.

Guimaraes has two years left on his contract, with the Magpies holding an option to extend his stay a further year to June 2029.

But in the event that the 28-year-old does leave, Newcastle have reportedly already identified a potential replacement, and a player sporting director Ross Wilson knows well.

Newcastle United identify possible Bruno Guimaraes replacement

According to Brazilian publication BandSports (via Sport Witness), Botafogo midfielder Danilo Santos is “favourite” to replace Guimaraes should his compatriot leave St James’ Park.

Danilo played for Nottingham Forest when Wilson was in place at Nottingham Forest and was involved in negotiations that saw the 25-year-old return to Brazil last summer for a reported £21million.

The midfielder was included in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup but all four of his appearances came as a substitute with Carlo Ancelotti favouring a midfield partnership of Guimaraes and former Real Madrid and Manchester United man Casemiro.

Newcastle United interested in Nottingham Forest full-back

Sticking with Wilson’s former club Forest and according to BBC Sport, the Magpies are interested in full-back Nico Williams.

The former Liverpool defender is in talks over a new contract at the City Ground but Newcastle and Manchester United are among the clubs to have registered their interest.

The Wales international still has three years left on his contract but the Reds want to reward him with an improved deal after his impressive displays last season.

Williams, 25, is capable of playing at right-back and left-back, two positions Eddie Howe’s squad are light in following the departures of Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth and Matt Targett, while Tino Livramento is currently injured.
