Club chief confirms imminent meeting with Leeds United ace – Claims he “wants to come”

Leeds United are in a goalkeeper pickle at the moment with Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier leaving, while Lucas Perri’s future is also up for debate.

United haven’t had a truly settled goalkeeper position for as long as I can remember. Karl Darlow felt like a refreshing development to finally have someone we can hang our hat on.

However, he’s off to Old Trafford, so he’s firmly a thing of the past. Lucas Perri, meanwhile, isn’t likely to earn back his starting spot either.

Torino sporting director Gianluca Petrachi confirms imminent Lucas Perri, Leeds United talks

The Brazilian has been a divisive presence between the sticks at Elland Road. His Premier League form of course left an awful lot to be desired, but I know I’m grateful for tremendous FA Cup performances at least.

That being said, Daniel Farke is obviously not sold, so it’s likely he won’t be our No1 next term.

Torino are a possible destination for the £15.6million 2025 signing, though. Following on from previous reports that Perri and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale are on the Serie A club’s radar, their sporting director has essentially confirmed it.

Speaking this week in a press conference, Gianluca Petrachi shared that a new goalkeeper is in Torino’s plans. Namely, Perri is one in the crosshairs.

“Now I want to recreate a virtuous circle, bringing players with hunger and enthusiasm, who wear this shirt with the knife between their teeth,” Petrachi said, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio. “We need a goalkeeper, and two central defenders. [Orlando, Paraguay’s GK] Gill is not closed, but the price has tripled.

“I have another goalkeeper who wants to come to Toro and on Monday I will meet the club (it should be Lucas Perri, ed). We are not looking for fallback solutions or zero parameters: we want first choices and we will make investments in these roles.

“It will depend on the companies we deal with, but for some players we have already found an agreement”.

Leeds United goalkeeping overhaul imminent as Lucas Perri may join Karl Darlow’s exit

Illan Meslier, gone. Karl Darlow, gone. Lucas Perri, going?

It’s fair to say that our previously quite deep goalkeeping options are vanishingly small now. As a result, I’m expecting that we’re going to sign someone very soon.

With Darlow leaving, there’s a real opportunity to land a significant statement signing in goal. However, if we let Perri go too, we’re going to need to sign a backup as well.

We’re in a decent position where we’re not under enormous make-or-brake pressure, but the clock is ticking for the club to get business done.
